Rainbow buzz cuts: The latest Instagram hair trend to break the internet
Because rainbow roots are so 2016...
Thanks to Katy Perry and Kristen Stewart, the iconic buzz cut is already shaping up to be a major hair trend for 2017. Yet if you thought shaving your head was the ultimate style statement, you clearly haven’t spied the rainbow buzz cuts all over Instagram!
Created by Instagrammer Janine Ker, a self-confessed “Artist turned HairStylist”, these vibrant and multicoloured designs are bright, edgy and totally amazing! Now, this look is more than just a little out-there, but one thing’s for sure: the artistry that’s gone into these designs takes hair styling to a whole new level.
The world is going crazy over these rainbow buzz cuts!
One peek at Janine’s Instagram account and you’ll soon see that she’s not your typical hair stylist. Regularly posting unconventional ‘dos using intricate hair tattoos and undercut designs, her feed is a constant source of inspiration! However, it’s her latest foray into coloured, carved hairstyles that really caught our attention.
Created by carving patterns into the hair and then painstakingly hand painting each section, the end result is a punky, show-stopping design unlike anything we’ve ever seen before! Credit: @janine_kerr_hair
We know what you’re thinking: florals for spring, groundbreaking. Well, we’re sure you’ll agree, that there’s nothing cliché about this flower print design! Striking the perfect balance between pretty and punk, it’s one of our favourite looks from Janine to date.
We also love how this look incorporates slightly more muted, pastel hues to create a style that, though bold, still looks surprisingly feminine. Credit: @janine_kerr_hair
This simple, yet effective, triangle print design shows that sometimes less really is more. You want your look to be unique to you, so why not make it your own by experimenting with polka dots, love heart or animal print designs? After all, your tresses are your canvas! Credit: @janine_kerr_hair
Sporting dark hair? Bold colours tend to show up best on bleached, platinum locks, but if you don’t want to pre-lighten your hair you can still rock the look.
Requiring less commitment than the more full-on carved styles, you can also spray-paint stencilled designs onto your ‘do using wash-in, wash-out hair colour sprays. With Glastonbury just weeks away, you can guarantee we’ll be giving this method a go! Credit: @janine_kerr_hair
Editor’s tip: If you’re brave enough to try this trend, make sure to invest in a good colour care system. The TRESemmé Colour Revitalise Vibrance Protection Shampoo and Conditioner gently cleanse hair (without stripping away any of your precious colour), to keep your ‘do looking vibrant for longer.
