Ooh la la! Macaron buns are the latest Parisian beauty trend making their way across the channel

Treat yourself to something sweet with the latest French beauty export!

First came the return of Brigitte Bardot-inspired split bangs and then came the très chic French bob. Oh and, of course, who could forget the quintessentially French beret trend (as seen on Rihanna and Winnie Harlow)?

But just when we thought we’d experimented with everything hair that the French had to offer, it has become clear that our love for all things Français knows no bounds, as yet another Parisian-inspired hairstyle is working its way across the channel – macaron buns.

With Pinterest already reporting a crazy 170% increase in searches for this cosmopolitan style over the past few months, there’s never been a better time to say salut to a new ‘do!

As the name suggests, this cutesy style is inspired by the circular French meringues you’ve seen dotted all over your feeds – and luckily, this adorable hairstyle is equally as Instagram-friendly, too!

Unlike some updos, this look is actually pretty versatile, as you don’t have to have long hair in order to pull it off. Those with shorter lob or bob lengths will be able to create adorable mini buns, while those with longer locks will achieve fuller, more voluminous bun styles – either way you win! Credit: @merewetherhairstudio

Space buns, (AKA the high bun version of this style) have long been a festival favourite, but we understand that the edgy, out-of-this-world style isn’t for everyone.

However, by positioning them lower at the nape of the neck, you’ll instantly transform your double buns into a chicer, more everyday-appropriate style, meaning that even the most styling-shy can give this one a go.

Also, on a more practical level, this trend has come along at just the right time of year. Macaron buns are the perfect way to keep your hair up and off of your neck for those hot summer city days, without having to scrape it up into a ponytail. Credit: @merewetherhairstudio

To recreate this blogger-approved style for yourself, simply use a tail comb to part your hair into two. Then take each side of your hair into a ponytail and twist them into buns, using bobby pins to keep them secure.

To perfect your look, use your fingers to make your buns as big and messy as you please. Don’t forget to pull out a few loose tendrils of hair around your face to give an ultra feminine, flattering result. Et voila! Credit: @fashioninflux

Editor’s tip: The key to nailing the Parisian girl look, is make sure your look doesn’t look too perfect or overdone – French girls are all about the effortless approach. We suggest spritzing your macaron buns with the TONI&GUY Sea Salt Texturising Sprayas it will instantly give your locks a tousled, lived-in look (plus it smells incroyable!).

And the best part is, the fun doesn’t end there! There are plenty of ways to spruce up your macaron buns from one day to the other, so you’ll never get stuck in a styling rut again!

Try experimenting with sleek, slicked-back variations for evenings out or curl your hair before styling to produce a beachy, textured effect. You can even incorporate braids or twists into your look if you want to to score a few extra style points – the possibilities are endless! Credit: @jojolimanoli
