How to use perm rods on natural hair

Section and moisturise.

Ready to master using perm rods on natural hair? Great! To start, create a neat box section at the back of your head using a comb.

After you’ve created your first section, apply some of the TONI&GUY Leave In Conditioner to it, to give your hair a moisture boost and keep it smooth.

Roll your hair.

Taking a perm rod, begin to wrap the ends of your hair around it, and continue rolling it up towards your scalp. Then secure it in place with the tie.

Hair hack: When using perm rods on natural hair, try rotating the rod as you go, as this will help create a super-defined curl pattern.

Repeat.

Continue the process of creating neat sections, applying leave-in conditioner and rolling up each section of hair with the perm rods.

Leave hair to set.

After you’ve completed doing step 3 and you have a head full of perm rods, wrap your mane in a silk scarf and leave hair to set (ideally, overnight or for a or a few hours).

Take down your hair.

Once your hair has set, start to undo the perm rods one by one.

Separate and fluff.

Once complete, add some of the TONI&GUY Radiating Tropical Oil to lubricate your fingers and hands, then gently separate your curls. This will provide some slip and help limit friction, making your curls look super bouncy and shiny.

Lay your edges.

Want your smooth your baby hairs? Grab an unused toothbrush and use some of the VO5 Mega Hold Gel Spray to lay your baby hairs and make your edges.

Final look.

Use a wide tooth comb to fluff your hair at the roots, because you can never have enough volume!
