How to get groovy half up, half down curls
Prep your hair.
While this hairstyle works best with second day hair, you can easily recreate the lived-in texture by applying some of the VO5 Volume Mousse into damp hair. This will give your strands some body and make it easier to create your half-up, half-down curls! After you’ve generously applied the mousse through your mane, blowdry it until it’s dry.
Apply serum and curl.
Next, to help protect your strands against heat damage, apply a healthy dose of the VO5 Smoothly Does It Heat Protect Serum. Then divide your hair into 2-3 inch wide sections, and use a curling tong to curl your mane.
To do this like a pro, you’ll need to clamp your strands at the ends and roll the barrel towards your face – only hold the hair in place for a few seconds, to create a loose curl. Continue working in sections until your entire head is curled, before setting them with a spritz of the TRESemmé Ultimate Hold Hairspray.
Tease and create bouffant.
Now it’s time to add some extra oomph to your look! To really ramp up the volume, separate the top section of your hair and use a comb to gently tease the strands.
Once that’s done, gather the top section of hair as though you are about to create a ponytail, and push it forward to form a bouffant shape. Then, take a small section hair from either side of your bouffant, twist it, and secure it in place with a bobby pin at the back of the bouffant.
Accessorise and tidy.
Grab your fave hair accessory (like a statement headband or bandana) and gently wrap it around your bouffant. Then give your retro ‘do a final spritz of the TRESemmé Ultimate Hold Hairspray to tame any flyaways.
Tip: If you’ve got a bangin’ fringe like Paige, run some straighteners over it to get a flawless finish.
Final look.
There you have it: a set of disco-perfect half-up, half-down curls, that really packs a punch in the style department. Groovy baby!
