Using a flexi rod set on natural hair will not only help you achieve defined, long-lasting spirals, it’s also a great lazy girl alternative. Rather than spending time using a curling iron and exposing your hair to potential heat damage, this tool does all the work for you – overnight.

Ready to learn more? Follow our simple step-by-step tutorial to see why flexi rods are totally natural-friendly.

How to use flexi rods on natural hair

1

Prep your tresses.

Start by detangling your natural hair with a comb or your fingers.

This will create the perfect canvas for the next styling steps.

2

Section the back.

Ready to use your flexi rod set on natural hair? Start by creating a box-shaped section of hair at the back of your head.

Use a comb and your hands to divide the hair and clip the rest of your tresses up.

3

Wet the ends.

Using flexi rods on dry natural hair? No problem. Simply wet the ends of your hair slightly so they are damp.

This will help you wrap each individual section around the flexi rod.

4

Apply a frizz-taming cream.

To help moisturise your tresse, apply a small amount of the VO5 Frizz Free Cream to your hands and then run it through the ends of your hair.

This will help leave you with a glossy, defined finish.

5

Start twirling.

Take a section of loose hair and place a flexi rod at the tip. Twist and wrap the hair around the rod, moving up towards the roots.

Once all the hair is wrapped around the flexi rod, bend both ends inwards to secure.

Whether you’re using flexi rods on short natural hair or longer strands, the process is the same. Just remember that you might want to alter the width or size of your flexi rod accordingly.

Repeat the process.

Ensuring that you’re taking even sections as you go, repeat the flexi rod application process for the rest of your hair.

Work from the bottom layers to the top, securing each flexi rod tightly.

Catch some beauty sleep.

Once all your flexi rods are in place, it’s time to hit the hay, leaving your curls to form overnight.

Unravel your hair.

Ready for gorgeous curls? Gently unravel your strands from each flexi rod. Once all your hair is loose, use your fingers to gently pull the curls apart.

This will add volume to the style while reducing any frizz.
