How To Get Beach Waves in 6 Easy Steps
Want to create beach waves for short hair? It's easier than you think...
Love the look of beach waves? Short hair is great for creating this relaxed, summer hairstyle. And you’ll be even happier to know that creating beach waves for short hair is super easy! So even if you’re sporting a short crop, you can still style your locks into gorgeous waves (and all without the need to even visit the beach!).
Just follow our step-by-step guide below for expert tips and tricks on how to get summer-ready beach waves in short hair, now.
Step 1: Apply heat protection spray
This tutorial for creating short hair beach waves, involves the use of a heated styling tool. So, be sure to mist your hair with some VO5 Smoothly Does It Heat Protect Spray before styling, to help protect your strands from heat damage.
Step 2: Section your hair
To create these beach waves your short hair can simply be sectioned in half, horizontally so that you have two equal sections: a top and a bottom one. Clip the top section out of the way for now (we’ll come back to it later!).
Step 3: Curl your hair
Now, to get your beach waves for short hair, start with the bottom section of your hair and curl a 1-2 inch-wide section around a curling tong (tongs generally work better on short hair than curling wands, as they have a handy clamp to hold your short hair in place while styling).
Work your way around your head, alternating between curling your hair inwards and outwards with each section. Why? Because this will help to create a tousled look with lots of movement!
Once you’ve finished curling the bottom section of your mane, let the top section loose and repeat the same curling process on this portion of hair. Then, gently tip your head upside down and shake it from side to side to help loosen the curls and make them appear more disconnected.
Step 4: Apply salt spray
If you want to achieve gorgeous beachy waves, then you need to invest in a good salt spray. Trust us: they’re practically famous for helping to provide those straight-from-the-beach textures!
We recommend spritzing some Toni&Guy Casual Sea Salt Texturising Spray over your mane, before gently scrunching your waves for added body and definition. Trust us, this is the best way to attain beach waves in short hair!
Step 5: Ensure it stays
Want longer-lasting short beach hair? Then you’ll need to seal it with some hairspray. Though of course, what you don’t want are crunchy, stiff-looking curls. So to make sure those effortless waves stay intact all day, spritz only a small amount of TRESemmé’ Perfectly (un)Done Ultra Brushable Hairspray to give the style a light, pliable hold that still allows plenty of movement.
Step 6: Apply a headband (optional)
Want to take your look to the next level? Why not spruce up your beach waves and short hair with a pretty headband? Place your chosen headband around your head, so that it sits approximately 3 inches from the front of your hairline. Pull some curls free from underneath, so that they tumble over your forehead and you’re good to go!
