How to do a heart braid
Prep.
This heart-shaped braid works like a dream on second-day hair, as your tresses have more grip, making them easier to plait.
To give your mane a refresh, spray the TONI&GUY Instant Refresh Dry shampoo on your roots.
Section your hair.
Using a fine-tooth comb, create a middle parting and section off your hair from to ear-to-ear.
Begin to braid.
Starting from the back of your middle parting, take a one-inch section and divide it into three equal strands to start your Dutch braid.
To do this, cross the left outer strand under your centre strand, then weave the right outer strand under the new centre strand.
Continue doing this, adding hair from underneath to your outer strands. Just remember to curve your braid as this will help create your heart-shaped braid.
Switch to a lace braid.
Once you are in line with your ear, you need to switch to a lace braid (think of it as a one-sided braid) to further help you make your braid look heart shaped.
With this braid, you need to add sections only to one side of the braid, instead of on both the sides.
Editor’s tip: To keep your heart plait looking neat, you’ll need to make sure to weave tightly.
Switch to a regular three-strand braid.
Once you pass your ear, switch to a regular three-strand braid and secure the ends with an elastic hairband.
Combine & set.
Now for the fun part: combine the two braids in the middle to complete your heart-shaped braid and secure with an elastic hairband.
For a seamless heart, you can conceal the elastic by taking a small piece of hair from your ponytail, wrapping it around the band and tucking in the end behind the braid.
To finish, set the whole look in place with the VO5 Ultimate Hold Hairspray, so that it lasts all day.
Final look.
And there you have it, a pretty heart braid hairstyle for your next festival and beyond!
Editor’s tip: Want to make your heart-shaped braid feel extra special? You can play around with glitter or add flowers into your hair.
Psst… If you don’t want to wear your hair down, you could always fashion your mane into a chic ponytail. Nonetheless, whichever way you decide to wear this gorgeous braid, we’re sure you’ll look fabulous.
