Looking for an elegant, bohemian-inspired hairstyle that would make Vanessa Hudgens proud? You should certainly try a halo braid.
A halo braid is a type of plaited hairstyle that is created when you weave two long Dutch braids around your head, and then pin them in place to create a pretty halo effect.
This hot-off-the-red-carpet plait is our latest go-to style for almost any occasion as it can be effortlessly dressed up or down. You can even style one out at a wedding! Need proof? Then you’re in luck.
As part of our mission to #beathairboredom with E!, we’ve enlisted the help of Chessie King (and a few other pals!) to create a quick step-by-step tutorial, so you can master the halo braid look at home.
How to Do a Halo Braid on Yourself
Prep hair for the halo braid.
Begin your halo braid journey by prepping your strands with a smoothing product like TRESemmé Keratin Smooth Shine Oil. Run a small amount through the lengths of your tresses for a sleek and frizz-free finish.
Divide hair.
Now, part your hair into two equal sections from the front all the way to the back of your head, just like you would for a two-braid hairstyle.
Don’t worry about the parting being perfect, it’ll all be hidden in the end.
Begin Dutch braid.
Take a small amount of hair from one of your two sections and start to Dutch braid beginning from the nape of your neck, remembering to pick up additional hair as you weave.
Continue Dutch braid.
Continue your Dutch braid around your head, following your hairline, until you reach back at your starting point. So far so simple, right?
Secure your braid.
When you reach the nape of your neck, finish your Dutch braid with a standard plait and secure it with a hairband. Now the fun part…
Wrap the braid.
To bring this halo braid together, it’s time to wrap the end of the braid around your head and discreetly secure it with bobby pins.
Seal your braided halo.
To seal your braid in place, give your ‘do a generous spritz of TRESemmé Freeze Hold Hairspray. Not only will this help tame any flyaways, but it will give your look an all-day hold – jackpot!
Final look.
And there you have it: a gorgeous halo braid ready to help you take on the world in style!
