The Kate Middleton hair trend: The hairnet!
Hairnets aren't just reserved for dinner ladies, you know...
So, Kate Middleton just proved that hairnets aren’t just reserved for dinner, ladies. Yes, you heard us correctly: the Duchess of Cambridge stepped out at the Somme Centenary Commemorations in France on Thursday sporting an elegant low chignon that was held in place with a hairnet (which was a safe bet as she was braving the fierce French winds!).
Here’s the lowdown on the new Kate Middleton hair trend and her new favourite hair accessory that’s taking the internet by storm.
The lowdown on the Kate Middleton hair trend
At first glance, we didn’t even spot the Dutchess’ hairnet as the headpiece was almost the perfect colour match with her own brunette hue, making it super subtle and almost unnoticeable (unless you have eagle eyes, like the All Things Hair team!).
The netting was placed neatly over Kate’s perfectly-formed chignon (possibly to help hold it in place). The Duchess completed her hair look with a black pillar-box hat – very Jacqueline Kennedy vibes (and we loved it!).
Her hairstyle was classic and timeless, which suited the commemorative event. But she had to have drawn inspiration from somewhere, right?
Perhaps Kate was influenced by the autumn/winter 2016 fashion week shows, where veils and hairpieces were in abundance, although they were of a much bolder nature than Kate’s subtle style. At the Gucci AW16 show, models had their entire hair and face veiled with a chic black netting in true vintage style.
Similarly, at Isabel Marant’s AW16 runway presentation, some models were spotted with ruffled hairnet pieces that were positioned neatly on the side of their updos.
Whatever her reason for wearing the hairnet, we bet that Kate’s statement hairdo will spark a new trend. So, if you want to get your mitts on a Duchess-inspired headpiece and style your very own Kate Middleton hair, you better act quick!
