5 tips on how to repair damaged hair
Want to know how to repair damaged hair? Unlock the secrets to healthier-looking tresses now.
Nobody wants dry, damaged or rough hair, right? No matter what your hair type may be, we bet that you want to have a soft, shiny, healthy-looking mane. But the truth is, most of us probably have some form of hair damage, thanks to heat styling tools, hair colouring and even our genetics! And while we can’t teach you how to repair damaged hair (because truthfully, you can’t fix what’s already broken!), you can improve the look and feel of damaged hair. So, if you want to discover how, simply read on for our top tips.
1. Inject some much-needed moisture back into your hair
Damage to your tresses can be caused by any number of different hair sins – ones which many of us are guilty of committing. And the one we most frequently commit is with our hair dryers, causing our manes to become dry and parched. Having dry hair is bad news, because it means it’s far more susceptible to breakage and split ends, which can give your hair a rather dull appearance.
While you can never fix split ends (unless of course, you cut them off), you can smooth the hair shaft down to make it appear healthier. How? By moisturising and nourishing your hair! Try using a deep conditioning mask, like the TONI&GUY Damage Repair Mask once a week until your hair looks and feels healthier. If you want to give your hair a real treat, try the VO5 Nourishing Coconut Hot Oil, it’s enriched with 5 natural oils and you can use it pre-wash as a pre-poo to help nourish your hair.
2. Use a leave-in conditioner
Another way to help treat dry and brittle hair is to give it a boost in hydration. Leave-in conditioners are just perfect for this when applied post-wash, and can also be used for detangling curly or coily locks! We’d recommend trying a spray leave-in (like the TRESemmé Botanique Nourish & Replenish Hydrating Mist) as their easy application means you can use it on the go!
3. Sleep on a silk pillow
If you aren’t already sleeping on a silk or satin pillow, then you had better start doing so ASAP! Not only does it feel luxuriously divine, but it’s also beneficial for your hair, too. Because the soft, slippery fabric prevents your strands from creating as much friction as they would on a cotton pillowcase, meaning they’re less likely to become rough or tangled. Pretty nifty, right?
4. Trim those ends!
Seeing as you can’t technically cure split ends (sigh), you have no option but to chop them off. So, try and book in regular appointments with your hairdresser to help keep split ends at bay. You know what they say: the best cure is prevention! And, if you have particularly short or curly hair, you may want to consider trying a number of different techniques, such as dusting. No idea what we’re talking about? Don’t worry: you can find all you need to know about trimming techniques, here.
5. Switch up your wash and care system
As you all know, taking good care of your hair starts with what you wash it with. And when it comes to damaged hair, it needs some serious help to improve its appearance – so look to switch up your regular wash and care system for a more intensive repair one. Try the TRESemme Botanique Nourish & Replenish Shampoo or the TONI&GUY Intense Softness Conditioner, which will help give your hair much-needed boost of moisture and smoothness!
